Power Generation *How many kilowatts do I require? Feasibility Study *Which renewable energy solution is best for my home and lifestyle? Most cost-effective? Most practical? Power Backup *How many hours off the grid can I get? Environmental Stewardship *How can I reduce the environmental impact of my energy, transportation, and lifestyle choices? Becoming Energy Independent means paying no energy bills, period. No electric bill, no heating bill, and no gasoline or diesel fuel bills. Sounds impossible, right? Well today there are affordable technologies that make it possible, thanks to companies like Krystal Planet. It all starts with reducing your energy consumption as much as possible, through energy efficiency (that's different than conservation). Next, add renewable energy to your home (solar, wind, geothermal, combined heat & power, or fuel cell). Size that system to power 200-300% of your home's energy needs on a net basis. The extra energy will then be used to either a) charge up your Plug-In Hybrid vehicle (conversions of a hybrid to a plug-in are available now) or b) make hydrogen from water to power a hydrogen dual-fuel vehicle (H2 conversions are available now). Now, you can see that you have no energy bills at home and your vehicle's fuel (as electricity stored in its batteries and/or H2) also comes from your home for 50-100% of your transportation needs depending on driving habits. --Troy Helming, CEO & Founder of Krystal Planet, author of Clean Power Revolution. Our renewable energy consultations are designed to provide information on current technologies, strategies, products and ideas for helping you implement renewable energy into your home's power generation mix. The following is a brief explanation of some basic components of our renewable energy consulting services. Home Energy Audit - On site visual evaluation of your home's structure, insulation, heating & cooling systems, water heating system, windows, doors, major appliances, lighting, and other related items.
- Blower Door test using a calibrated fan system designed to identify air leaks and determine the proper amount of ventilation needed for your home. May include a separate Duct Blower test to identify duct leakage.
- Computer generated report itemizing opportunities to save energy, and increase comfort specific to your home and circumstance. The report will show what needs to be done, an estimated cost, and the expected savings, giving you the ability to consider the cost-effectiveness of each suggested improvement.
Electric Usage Evaluation - Inventory of your homes electrical appliances and lighting
- Evaluation of usage and electric bill
- Recommendations on reducing electric usage and hot water

The global atmosphere is changing. Concentrations of CO2, methane, nitrous oxide and other greenhouse gasses have been rapidly rising, particularly during the last several decades. These gasses trap some of the Earth's heat and allow solar radiation to penetrate the atmosphere, thus warming the planet. We are responsible for the release and build-up of these gasses that are generated in increasingly alarming quantities as a result of the use of dirty fossil fuels. |

Source: U.S. DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Solar water heaters-also called solar domestic hot water systems-can be a cost-effective way to generate hot water for your home. They can be used in any climate, and the fuel they use-sunshine-is free. How They Work Solar water heating systems include storage tanks and solar collectors. There are two types of solar water heating systems: active, which have circulating pumps and controls, and passive, which don't. Most solar water heaters require a well-insulated storage tank. Solar storage tanks have an additional outlet and inlet connected to and from the collector. In two-tank systems, the solar water heater preheats water before it enters the conventional water heater. In one-tank systems, the back-up heater is combined with the solar storage in one tank. |

More than two-thirds of our nation's supply of electricity still comes from fossil fuels. It is the burning of these fuels that releases heat-trapping gasses. And as long as the amount of heat-trapping gasses continues to rise, global warming will continue to bring about disruptive changes in our environment. Political leaders recognize the tremendous benefits arising from the use of wind energy. Manufacturing wind turbines creates a large number of good paying jobs per megawatt of generating capacity, as does installation and maintenance. Wind energy installations are clean, non-polluting, they consume no water, and leave no residual waste to dispose. This is as good as it gets! |
